USDA to Implement Import Certificate Requirement for Organic Products Shipped from Mexico

Starting January 16th, 2017, The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) will require the use of import certificates for all organic products traded between the United States and Mexico.  This certificate will be called the National Organic Program (NOP) Certificate.  This was a joint effort by the USDA AMS and Mexico’s National Service for Animal and Plant Health, Food Safety and Quality (SENASICA) to “improve consumer confidence in imported organic products and protect the integrity of the organic trade” per the USDA press release.
