After US Steel announced the layoffs of 25% of their workforce in Northwest Indiana, US Senator Joe Donnelly released a statement that levied the blame on illegally dumped steel from overseas. He said, “Our steel industry is under constant attack from illegal dumping and currency manipulation, and we cannot sit by and watch as American workers continue to get cheated out of their jobs.†Anti-dumping duties are levied to even the playing field for US manufacturers. Anti-dumping has been labeled a “Priority Trade Issue†by US Customs.
