Update to Safe Food for Canadians licensing guidance (Annex A)
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has updated (4.0) Annex A: Food commodities identified in the licence application of the guidance document What to consider before applying for a Safe Food for Canadians licence.
Annex A, which contains guidance for food businesses on how to select the appropriate food commodity on the SFC licence application, now indicates that food businesses should identify pulses that are not frozen nor packed in hermetically sealed packages (such as dried lentils, dried peas, chickpeas and faba beans) under the Manufactured foods commodity, sub-commodity Nuts, grains, seeds. The Harmonized System (HS) chapter 07.13, which includes these types of foods, is now indicated as an example of an HS chapter for importing nuts, grains, seeds.
Please note that pulses that are frozen or packed in hermetically sealed packages should continue to be identified under the Processed fruits and vegetables commodity, sub-commodity Processed vegetables.
