Update to Establishment Requirements for Export of Poultry Meat to the United States

Please be advised that Canada and Argentina are negotiating the conditions to permit the import of poultry meat products from Argentina into Canada.  The United States Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA-APHIS) regulations prohibit the import (directly or indirectly through third countries) of raw meat products from Argentina.  The USDA-APHIS identifies these meat products to be “prohibited poultry meat products” to which animal health restrictions apply.

Canadian establishments that export poultry products to the United States and plan on importing poultry meat products from Argentina are responsible for complying with the requirements outlined in Chapter 11, US Section 11.7.3.2.2.1.1 “Animal health restrictions related to the receiving of raw poultry meat from Argentina, Brazil or Hungary” of the Meat Hygiene Manual of Procedures are available on the Canadian Food Inspection Agency website.
