UPDATE – Country of Melt and Pour reporting effective NOV 05, 2024

The following is provided by Global Affairs Canada (GAC).

Please note that, as of November 5, 2024, importers are now required to provide country of melt and pour (COM) information when completing their customs declarations through the Single Window Integrated Import Declaration (SW IID) for applicable steel imports as a term and condition of using the General Import Permits No. 80 and No. 81.

Updated administrative guidance, including detailed information on the COM requirement and exemptions, is available in the new Notice to Importers – Steel General Import Permits No. 80 and 81 – Carbon and Specialty Steel Products – Serial No. 1133.

Furthermore, a comprehensive list of HS codes exempt from the COM requirement has been published here for reference.

Information concerning the Steel Import Monitoring program is available on the GAC website.

Questions or concerns should be directed to the Canadian regulatory group.
