In a recent ruling on the scope of the antidumping and countervailing duty orders (A-122-857/ C-122-858) covering softwood lumber, the U.S. Department of Commerce has determined that cedar shakes and cedar shingles are subject to the additional duty. The Commerce Department’s findings are based on the original scope that states, “coniferous wood, sawn or chipped lengthwise…of an actual thickness exceeding six millimeters.â€Â The diagonal cut during the production has been ruled to be ‘lengthwise.’
