Trade Show Season: Know Before You Go!

This is the time of year when companies are preparing to be an exhibitor at a trade show in the United States. So, before you load those skids, here are a few items to be cautious about shipping:

  • Apparel and Textile Items – The manufacturer’s name and address are required. These items can carry a very high duty rate.
  • Pens – Require a TSCA (Toxic Substances Control Act) Certification
  • Food – Even food for intended to be given away requires FDA Prior Notice. Filing of prior notice requires information such as: Manufacturer, FDA registration, packaging details, and an FSVP importer contact information. Please note that foreign shippers of food must be registered with the FDA.
  • Sunglasses – Require a ‘Drop Ball” Certification
  • Wood Products (toothpicks, skewers) – Require a Lacey Act Declaration for the USDA.
  • Antibacterial Wipes – Require EPA Notice of Arrival filing.

An ounce of prevention can be worth a pound of cure. Don’t risk delays at the border when you can buy these common household items after you cross the border.
