The U.S. Department of Commerce has reached a preliminary agreement to suspend the anti-dumping duty levied against tomatoes grown in Mexico. This agreement will now enter a thirty-day notice period before the final agreement could be signed on September 19th, 2019.
Most notably, this agreement would set new inspection requirements. All round, roma, and bulk grape tomatoes will be subject to inspection at the cost of the importer. However, tomatoes on the vine, specialty tomatoes, and grape tomatoes in retail packages of two pounds or less will be exempt from inspection.
