The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) will now ban imports of fish from countries that are not deemed to have comparable marine mammal protections.  This final rule states that a “List of Foreign Fisheries†will be published every four years that shows the countries eligible to export fish into the US.  However, there will be a five (5) year grace period before import restrictions take effect unless circumstance dictate that emergency action must be taken before then.
