As many people have been following, the office of the U.S. Trade Representative has issued a list of tariff numbers that would be impacted with a 25% rate of duty if the goods are made in China. One commonly shipped item on this list is televisions classified in Chapter 85 under tariff number 8528.72.64. This would impact many Canadian companies that send an annual trade show shipment into the United States. This duty would not apply if the goods were entered on a temporary import bond (TIB), but remember, all goods entered under a TIB must be exported and the bond must be properly closed out. Failure to properly close a TIB would result in the duty due plus an additional penalty for a breach of the bond. Please take special care with your trade show shipments. The U.S. Transition and Regulatory team can assist.
