Tariff Rate Quotas (TRQ) for Certain Steel Goods
This message pertains to imports of certain steel goods as listed in the Order Imposing a Surtax on the Importation of Certain Steel Goods.
The purpose of this message is to inform importers that a new Notice to Importers has been published reflecting amendments to the Order Imposing a Surtax on the Importation of Certain Steel Goods. The substantive changes are as follows:
- Goods of Canadian origin are no longer subject to provisional safeguards.
- Energy tubular products and wire rod of Mexican origin now draw from TRQs separate from energy tubular products and wire rod of non-Mexican origin.
Importers must now apply for shipment-specific permits for energy tubular goods with the Harmonized System (HS) codes as included in the Schedule to the Customs Tariff that came into force on January 1, 2019. The relevant codes may also be found on the Global Affairs website.
The new Notice, serial no. 936, supersedes the previous no. 911. It may be found on the Global Affairs website.
Details concerning the amendments to the Order Imposing a Surtax on the Importation of Certain Steel Goods will be published in the February 20th edition of the Canada Gazette, Part II.
