The Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development, today issued the following statement regarding the findings of the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) dispute settlement panel on the rules of origin for automotive products:
“Canada welcomes the findings of the panel’s report, which reaffirm our understanding of the negotiated outcome on the rules of origin for automotive products.
“Canada is deeply committed to rules-based international trade and is glad to see that the dispute settlement mechanisms in place are supporting our rights and obligations negotiated in CUSMA.
“Our government will always stand up for the Canadian auto industry and its workers as we continue to build resilient supply chains and foster a sustainable economic recovery.
“We look forward to working with our partners in the United States and Mexico on the continued implementation of CUSMA to benefit Canadian workers and industry and to increase North American competitiveness.”
