Slaughter establishment number requirement on the import declaration for meat products from the United States

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is implementing a requirement for all meat products originating from the United States (US). This requirement involves the inclusion of the registration type number “122 – Slaughter establishment” for all Harmonized System (HS) codes in the Automated Import Reference System (AIRS) for meat products originating from the US.

Please be advised that this registration type is already present in AIRS for other countries eligible to export meat products to Canada and the information is documented in the “Remarks” section on the Official Meat Inspection Certificate (OMIC) issued by the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) in the US. Importers and brokers must declare slaughter establishment number to the CFIA National Import Service Centre (NISC) when submitting their package for review as per standard procedure. Only one slaughter establishment number is required when submitting the import transaction to NISC.

Exemption: This requirement does not apply to the Certificate for Foreign Government (CFG) issued by Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) for foods with meat ingredients (broths, flavours and extracts) and zoo-sanitary certificates.
