The Canadian Food Inspection Agency published the 3rd revision of directive D-10-01: General phytosanitary requirements for fresh pepper and tomato fruit imported from the world on October 19, 2022. The directive outlines general phytosanitary import requirements applied to fresh pepper and tomato fruit as well as specific requirements applied to prevent the introduction of Tuta absoluta (tomato leaf miner) and Thaumatotibia leucotreta (false codling moth).
Revisions include updates to the list of countries eligible to export fresh pepper and tomato fruit to Canada. Consult the Automated Import Reference System (AIRS) for commodity and origin-specific phytosanitary import requirements.
For a period of 30 days following the effective date of the directive, the CFIA will accept the previous additional declarations indicated in the 2nd revision. As of November 18, 2022 only the additional declarations indicated in the 3rd revision of the directive will be accepted.
Changes to the list of countries approved to export fresh pepper and tomato fruit take effect immediately. Consignments destined to Canada that were correctly certified and exported prior to the entry into force of the revised phytosanitary requirements will be permitted entry.
