On Tuesday March 6th, President Trump announced adjustments to tariffs imposed on imports from Canada and Mexico modifying his previous orders (Executive Orders 14193 & 14194 of February 1, 2025) implementing a 25 percent tariff on merchandise of Canada imported to the United States.
Beginning 12:01a.m. EST on March 7, 2025 the following amendments will become effective;
- Articles that are entered free of duty as goods of Canada or Mexico under the terms of the United States – Mexico – Canada Free Trade Agreement (USMCA) shall not be subject to the additional ad valorem rate of duty described in Executive Orders 14193 & 14194.
- Canadian or Mexican origin potash that does not qualify for preferential treatment under the USMCA shall be reduced to 10 percent in lieu of 25 percent
- Canadian origin energy products that do not qualify for preferential treatment under the USMCA shall be subject 10 percent ad valorem.

IMPORTANT NOTES: This action is NOT retroactive, merchandise that has entered and was subject to the 25 percent tariff will continue to be.
This fact sheet does not provide for an expiration date of this amendment; however, some sources have reported an expiration date of April 2, 2025.
