The USDA’s Agricultural Plant and Health Inspection Service (APHIS) today announced that the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is halting certification of all potatoes from Prince Edward Island due to recent detections of potato wart in two separate potato fields.
Additionally, APHIS will prohibit the import of soil from Prince Edward Island, and all imported farm machinery, tools, or implements from the area must be clean and free of soil. APHIS has requested that Customs and Border Protection (CBP) implement these restrictions, starting at midnight tonight.
CFIA will continue an investigation into the potato wart outbreak.
