Importing broth, flavour and extract of meat origin

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has published guidance for imports of broth, flavour and extract of meat origin into Canada on the Food-specific import requirements web page.

These products must be imported using:

  • a Foreign Competent Authority issued Official Meat Inspection Certificate (OMIC) or
  • an export certificate issued by Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Centre for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN) or
  • a food certificate negotiated and approved by the CFIA for countries other than the USA.

These documents are replacing the “Importer’s Attestation” and the “Letter of Exemption”.  To facilitate the transition to the new documentation, the previous documentation is accepted until October 31, 2020.

If you have any questions, please contact the local CFIA area office.
