Importer Pleads Guilty for Lacey Act Violations on Seafood

Canadian seafood exporters must possess a fish export license in order to properly export, process, or store fish for export from Canada.  The US Lacey Act prohibits the taking, possession, transportation or sale of fish taken in violation of foreign law.  One importer in Maine will now have to pay up to $1.25 Million in fines for improperly importing approximately $172,000 of sea urchin because the exporter did not have the proper license.
