The following is provided by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).
Reminder: Export of Food containing egg ingredients to the United States
This is a reminder that in the event of an active outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in Canada, the following process must be followed for food products containing egg ingredients destined to the United States: “Export requirements for edible food products containing processed egg ingredients“.
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Services (APHIS) will require an import permit and manufacturer’s declaration for fully finished, non-shelf stable, and/or non-commercially packaged products originating from all of Canada. Please note that CFIA will not be involved in the import permit process.
While a company awaits issuance of an import permit by APHIS, as a transitional measure, CFIA inspectors will continue to issue certificates as required and upon request. The CFIA will not issue certificates once import permits have been issued to companies exporting these products to the US.
