What We Are Looking Into
Detailed instructions for truck drivers on what to do and expect when arriving at a CBSA primary inspection line, from a health maintenance perspective.
Key Issues
Please note that we are currently working on developing an issues tracker which will be available online in the coming days.
There is no provision in the Customs Act allowing the CBSA to waive the application for a Request for Extension of Time (RFE) as per 60.1 of the Customs Act, or that allows the CBSA to waive the requirement to pay or post security as per section 60 of the Customs Act.
At this time, the CBSA expects importers and customs brokers to submit their payments for March 2020 Statements of Account on the due date of April 1, 2020 for payment of duties and taxes. The Government of Canada will continue to monitor evolving economic conditions and seek other relief options should they be necessary.
The CBSA recognizes that preventing the spread of COVID-19 in our facilities is important for everyone and we are taking all measures to ensure our facilities are safe, specifically following the recommendations of the Public Health Agency of Canada these recommendations include; employees regularly washing their hands, hand sanitizer and sanitizing wipes on site, and increased cleaning of hightouch surfaces and work areas. The CBSA is working with external partners and specialised companies to assist in the cleaning of our facilities. Employees have continuously been reminded of how COVID-19 is transmitted in order to prevent transmission.
Our clients also have an important role to play in preventing the spread of COVID-19. By following the recommendations of the Public Health Agency of Canada, clients can contribute to keeping CBSA facilities safe and clean, ensuring everyone’s health and safety.
