The US Congressional Steel Caucus held their annual ‘State of Steel’ hearing last week. The overwhelming theme was that the United States should not become dependent on foreign countries to produce steel. This push will be backed by recently passed legislation and strict enforcement of anti-dumping and counter veiling duties. Currently, imports represent about 29 percent of the US market.
