CFIA – Update to the export certificates of the United Kingdom

Please note that the United Kingdom (UK) has amended its certificates for the export of food of animal origin intended for human consumption. The new model certificates do not represent any change to UK import requirements, but the format of the streamlined certificates differs from the current certificate templates. Therefore, the new certificates can be used immediately. The UK will accept the previous version of certificates signed on or before April 29, 2024.

The Food export requirements library has been amended to reflect these changes.

Furthermore, starting April 30 2024, products imported into the UK will be subject to the Border Target Operating Model (BTOM) risk categorisation (low, medium and high) and related rules. Thus, consignments of certain products of animal origin that have been categorized as low risk by the UK may no longer require an export certificate issued by the CFIA. A commercial document from the supplier may be adequate.

The CFIA strongly recommends that industry work closely with their importer and familiarize themselves with the new UK import requirements. Export certification requests must be made to CFIA before the consignment leaves Canada. See below for to additional information:
