CFIA – Meat and Poultry Updates

Section 11.7.3, Annex W – United States of the Chapter 11 of the Meat Hygiene Manual of Procedures (MHMP), have been updated

Species and processing category information of establishments eligible to export to the United States

Establishment 084: replaces code 03G (fully cooked-not shelf stable) with 03H (heat treated but not fully cooked-not shelf stable) for Veal and Pork.

Establishment 703: adds code 03G (fully cooked-not shelf stable) for pork.

Notification on the revised Policy on the Control of Listeria monocytogenes in Ready-to-Eat (RTE) Meat and Poultry Products

The important highlights of the revised version are as follows:

Introduced the concept of Alternative methods to control L. monocytogenes in RTE meat products • Clarified the US export requirements • Modified the follow–up procedures for operators and the compliance verification by the CFIA when unsatisfactory results are reported for product and food contact surface.

Modified the assessment criteria for Cat 2 products • Clarified the assessment criteria and follow-up procedures for Salmonella spp and E. coli 0157 analysis.

MHMOP Ch 4 Annex I has been embedded into this section • Provided link to HC`s “Compendium of Analytical Methods“for acceptable methods & provided additional acceptable methods for Salmonella spp testing.

Revised the appendices to reflect the modified follow-up procedures

Annex 1 List of Establishments Approved to Export to Mexico and Brazil

List of Establishments approved to export meat to Mexico and Brazil in Chapter 11 of the Meat Hygiene Manual of Procedures (MHMP), has been revised on April 4, 2016, with the following information:

Mexico: Establishment 007M removed – As per operator’s request (2016-03-24)

Brazil: Establishment 368 removed – As per operator’s request (2016-03-21)

Export requirements under section 11.7.3, Annex W – United States of the Chapter 11 of the Meat Hygiene Manual of Procedures (MHMP), have been updated

11.7.3, United-States- Annex W –Species and Processing category is included as per FSIS requirements

List of Establishments approved to export meat to Mexico in Chapter 11 of the Meat Hygiene Manual of Procedures (MHMP), has been revised on March 24, 2016
