CFIA initiatives under the Regulatory Cooperative Council
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and its counterparts the United States Department of Agriculture and the United States Food & Drug Administration have agreed upon new statements of partnership and work plans in areas of plant health, animal health, meat inspection and food safety.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), Health Canada and the United States Food and Drug Administration will finalize the assessment of each other’s food safety systems (excluding meat, poultry and eggs products) and will establish a food safety systems recognition arrangement based on the results.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and the United States Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service will continue to work together to update their slaughter and processed meat inspection policies and procedures.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and the United States Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service will continue to advance a perimeter approach to plant protection to protect Canada and the U.S. from the unintentional introduction of pests and invasive alien species through movement of plants and plant products.
