CFIA – Consultation : D-13-01 revised to include a shipborne dunnage option

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is seeking feedback on directive D-13-01: Canadian Heat Treated Wood Products Certification Program (HT Program).

How to participate:
Contact forestry-foresterie@inspection.gc.ca to request the draft directive. Please review the document and provide comments by September 16th, 2024.

This directive describes the HT Program, which provides a basis for meeting the foreign phytosanitary import requirements for heat treated wood products. The HT program establishes the requirements for facilities registered under the program to produce and/or handle (that is, produce, manufacture, reuse, or sell) wood that has been heat treated to a minimum temperature of 56°C throughout the profile of the wood (including at its core) for a minimum of 30 minutes. The heat treatment standard also applies to the production of wood packaging material in accordance with the provisions of the International Standard for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPM 15): Regulation of Wood packaging material in International Trade. Recent updates have been included to include the option for facilities registered under D-13-01 as heat treatment facilities to be able to receive and treat shipborne dunnage for reuse.

Once finalized, the revised directive will be posted on the CFIA’s website.
