The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has published its Trade Compliance Verifications for January 2024.
CBSA administers trade compliance verification through various tools including but not limited to; Trade advisory notice (TAN), Compliance validation letter (CVL), Directed compliance letter (DCL)
CBSA conducts targeted verifications by issuing verification priorities related to tariff classification, valuation, and origin.
Verification priorities can be carried over from previous years and new targets can be added throughout the current year.
Importers must ensure goods are classified correctly, the proper origin and value are declared, in addition to paying the appropriate duties and taxes.
Any errors must be reported to CBSA and corrected within ninety (90) days of having reason to believe and error has occurred.
