This memorandum provides a general overview of TRQs and the legislation that applies to them. Â It also outlines departmental guidelines for the administration of TRQs.
This memorandum has been updated to reflect changes to the Canada Border Services Agency’s (CBSA) organizational structure and the recent name change of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada (DFATD) to the Department of Global Affairs Canada (Global Affairs Canada).
The Consolidated Listing of the Agricultural Goods Subject to Tariff Rate Quotas (TRQs) found in the Appendix was updated to reflect amendments made to 18 tariff item numbers by Order in Council SOR/2011-191.  These amendments were required in order to align the numbers in the regulations made pursuant to the Export and Import Permits Act (EIPA) with those in the Schedule to the Customs Tariff that entered into force on January 1, 2012.
