CBP Issues Classification Ruling on “Unisex” Chef Coats

Traditionally, unisex clothing defaults to the female clothing classification when entering the United States, however a recent ruling on Chef’s coats brought a new element into the classification equation: cut of the garment.

US Customs reconsidered their previous ruling and reclassified these chef’s coats based on the ‘design details,’ particularly the lack of ‘darts’ that is normally placed on female clothing to create the proper fit.
