CBP intercepts nearly $60,000 in unreported Currency during Outbound Inspection

Last week, CBP Officers working on outbound inspections in Texas selected an SUV, heading into Mexico, for inspection.  In the vehicle, $57,691 in unreported currency was recovered.  It is not a crime to carry currency out of the country, however, amounts in excess of $10,000 must be reported.  This currency was seized.  The individual does have the right to petition for the return of the money, but they must prove that the origin and intended use was legitimate and legal.
