A Canadian seafood wholesaler faces a year in prison after importing fish that was previously refused by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). On the first importation from Mexico, the U.S. FDA refused entry because the FDA determined the product to be putrid and decomposed.
The shipment was transported in bond to Canada for sale and distribution. After cooking and eating the fish in question, a portion of the fish was subsequently sold into the U.S. market. This act is punishable by up to one year of prison and the company has already agreed to pay a $150,000 fine.
