Last week, four members of the U.S. House of Representatives introduced a bill to require minimum staffing of U.S. Customs Officers at the Canadian Border. This was a companion bill, mirroring the “Border Officers Utilization for National Defense Act of 2019†introduced in the U.S. Senate by Check Schumer. These proposals would limit the transfer of officers from the northern border to any other border as a response to the southern border crisis. These transfers resulted in delays to cargo and passenger processing.
