Certain drill pipe from China

On March 25, 2022 the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced today that it is launching investigations to determine whether certain drill pipe from China is being sold at unfair prices in Canada and whether these goods are being subsidized.

The investigations are the result of a complaint filed with the CBSA by Command Drilling Products Ltd.

The CBSA and the Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) both play a role in the investigations. The CITT will begin a preliminary inquiry to determine whether the imports are harming Canadian producers and will issue a decision by May 24, 2022. Concurrently, the CBSA will investigate whether the imports are being sold in Canada at unfair prices and/or are being subsidized, and will make a preliminary decision by June 23, 2022.

Notice of conclusion of re investigations, Refined Sugar

On March 30, 2022 the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has concluded re-investigations of the normal values and export prices of refined sugar, refined from sugar cane or sugar beets, in granulated, liquid and powdered form (refined sugar), originating in or exported from the United States, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom and amounts of subsidy of refined sugar originating in or exported from the European Union.

The re investigation was initiated on October 6, 2021, as part of the CBSA’s ongoing enforcement of the Canadian International Trade Tribunal’s (CITT) order issued on August 6, 2021.

On January 11, 2022, the CBSA extended the re investigation due to the complexity and novelty of the issues presented by the re investigations.

Notice of initiation of expiry review investigation, Certain Concrete Reinforcing Bar

On March 29, 2022, the Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) initiated an expiry review concerning the dumping of certain concrete reinforcing bar originating in or exported from Belarus, the Separate Customs Territory of Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen and Matsu (Chinese Taipei), the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China, Japan, Portugal, and Spain.

The CBSA will decide no later than August 26, 2022, and will issue a Statement of Reasons by September 9, 2022.
