According to the office of a US Trade Representative, the US is prepared to negotiate a new Softwood Lumber Agreement now that the previous SLA agreement has expired. According to the US Trade Representative’s office, they are “ready to engage with Canada to ensure fair and stable conditions for trades in softwood lumber that reflects current market realities.†However, a Canadian Government Official has stated that the US has been reluctant.
