Initially, The U.S. Department of Commerce announced that aluminum licensing through the Aluminum Import Monitoring and Analysis System would begin on January 25th 2021. On January 22nd, 2021, CSMS #45799085 was issued stating that the requirement will be delayed until March 29th, 2021.
At this time, no new information has been made available to the trade. If your company ships aluminum to the United States, be prepared for the March 29th implementation date. This requirement applies to “basic aluminum products” under the following tariff schedule headings and subheadings: 7601, 7604, 7605, 7606, 7607, 7608, 7609, 7616.99.51.60 and 7616.99.51.70.
