- The United Kingdom left the European Union customs union on January 1, 2021, and is no longer a party to the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA).
- Canada and the United Kingdom negotiated a Trade Continuity Agreement (TCA), which was signed on December 9, 2020, and enters into force on April 1, 2021.
- The TCA replicates the import and export origin quotas contained in Annex 5-A – Origin quotas and alternatives to the product-specific rules of origin in Annex 5 contained in CETA.
- Shipment-specific permits will be required for imports of origin quota textiles and apparel, as outlined in Notice to Importers No. 1037, and for exports of origin quota vehicles, as outlined in Notice to Exporters No. 1038.
- Shipment-specific permits are not required for exports of any other origin quota goods.
