North America Consumer Product Safety Summit 2015 – Joint Statement

The national consumer product safety regulators of North America – Mexico’s Consumer Protection Federal Agency (PROFECO), the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada – view continued cooperation as the essential element for sustained progress in our joint product safety work. We have worked diligently to build on our success to date, so that together, we may better protect the people of North America.

On November 18 and 19, 2015, PROFECO hosted the Third North America Consumer Product Safety Summit in Mexico City (Mexico), in partnership with the CPSC and Health Canada. The aim of the Summit was to take stock of our progress under the North America Cooperative Engagement Framework (CEF) for 2013 to 2017, develop a path forward for additional collaboration, and encourage stakeholders in the region to work together toward a stronger culture of consumer product safety. This year’s Summit focused on customs cooperation, legal frameworks for recalls, international collaboration by non-government stakeholders, industry-adopted best practices, the role of voluntary product safety standards, and effective approaches to managing risk.
