Food facilities are required to renew their registration in every even numbered year between October 1st and December 31st. The owner, operator, or agent in charge of the facility, or a person authorized by one of them, can submit a facility registration.
The 2020 FDA biennial FDA registration requires that food facilities provide a Unique Facility Identifier (UFI) when registering with FDA or renewing an FDA registration. The FDA has previously issued guidance stating that the Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS) numbers are currently the only UFI recognized by FDA.
To Renew or Obtain a Food Facility Registration
Please visit the FDA Industry Systems (FIS) to access your account. If you have forgotten your Account ID and/or password, please select ‘Forgot Account ID’ and/or ‘Forgot Password’ to obtain your login information. If you have not accessed your account in over 90 days, you will be required to create a new password.
Please visit the FDA Industry Systems Account Management Guide for more information on managing your account or resetting your password. If you require further assistance, please call our FURLS Helpdesk at 1.800.216.7331 or 240.247.8804 or email FURLS@fda.gov. Due to the high call and email volume received during the renewal period, we encourage you to contact us in advance of the renewal period for account management assistance.
To Obtain a DUNS Number
The FDA DUNS Portal can be found here if your firm needs to obtain a DUNS number. If you have issues with the portal, a step by step guide has been created by the FDA to assist you in the process. Dun & Bradstreet estimates a seven (7) to fifteen (15) business day turnaround time on these requests, but wait times may be longer due to volumes.
If your company has not established a DUNS number, please submit for one soon so there are no lapses in FDA registration renewal. Failure to renew registration will result in the cancellation of your facilities registration.
